For Immediate Release –  July 27, 2009—ActionProfiles.com, an action sports network has partnered with InOurOwnQuietWay.org in an effort to raise money and awareness to the drought problem in Kenya, Africa. Kenya is in the throes of a three- year drought that has affected millions, and the two organizations are hoping to see dams built that will benefit local communities and relieve dire needs for clean water.  The new “Give a Dam” campaign is not only promoting clean water sources, but is also hoping to bring new forms of revenue to South Africa via action sports, such as skateboarding, wakeboarding, and surfing. Companies contributing to the campaign effort include ZAGG™, Wakeology, Rockwell Timekeepers, Marine Products, Edge Motorsports, and Revolution Mfg.

AP team members Shawn Vierra and Kye Tanner will be in Kenya from July 28th – August 10th shooting a new action sports documentary and working in the field, providing much needed aid to rural communities. “These types of opportunities to give back are few and far between,” explains AP Owner Jesse DenHerder, “We’re honored to leverage AP’s creative strengths toward such a worthy cause.” Quiet Way has already filled two 40-foot containers with humanitarian, educational, and medical supplies to benefit children in Kenya, a shipment worth over 1 million dollars. AP has also created a limited edition line of “Africa themed” T-shirts, wakeboards, and longboards that will be sold to raise money for the “Give a Dam” project, with the first run being offered as gifts to the VP of Kenya.

About “Give a Dam”

Every day young Kenyan people (mostly women) have to travel up to 45 miles to retrieve water for drinking and cooking. (The silhouette of the Kenyan woman with the water jug on her head is ubiquitous.) These villagers are forced to leave their children behind, unattended, and to face frequent exhausting trips just for the convenience of clean water.  QW is working to build dams that would take water from the streams and create reservoirs for small communities.  These reservoirs would keep fresh water during the drought season to make life for Kenyans healthier, more convenient, and also eliminate the need for leaving children unattended.

McSauba Skatepark/Charlevoix Venetian Festival Comp.

July 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Thanks to everyone who came out for the City of Charlevoix McSauba/Skatepark Comp. Laura Stebe and crew put on an excellent event. Top notch riding went down, complete with BBQ and some nice Northern MI hospitality. A big thanks to Ride 45 board shop for throwing down some product, and their support for the community.

Casey Huizenga from Petoskey took first in the upperclass skateboarding comp. with some clean back-lips and front blunts on the big handrail and an almost landed huge frontside 360 ollie to flat off the top of the mini-ramp. Great style from this kid… def. keep your eyes on him.
Also impressing the crowd and taking first in his class for inline was Jordan Awrey from Gaylord.  This kid is ridiculous on a pair of skis, a local ripper at Nubs and Boyne Mountain.  Last but certainly not least was Tyler from Pellston, MI, who placed first in BMX.  Tyler just got off a fishing boat in Alaska, and showed up to the comp with an impressive beard, and an even more impressive bag of tricks, including huge transfers over the hip and always finding the hardest lines in the park.

Go Sk8 iPhone App Hits the Market

July 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Manhattan Beach, CA. (June 24, 2009) – Go Sk8 has officially hit the market. The Go Sk8 iPhone application is meant to be played like the traditional game of skate, however, the developers of Go Sk8 have gone to great lengths to spice the game up by adding three different skill levels (basic, medium, advanced) and four obstacle options (ledge, manual, transition, flat-ground). Go Sk8 has certainly surpassed other iPhone skate applications in this respect.

Professional skateboarder Danny Gonzalez had this to say about the application “I love this app. The design is fresh and it doesn’t freeze like other apps. By adding in different skill levels and obstacles, it makes an otherwise basic game of skate more challenging”.

Go Sk8 can be played on any iPhone or iPod Touch and is guaranteed to make any session at any spot more fun.
