Skate Shop Showcase Presented by Ollie Pop – A Complete Success

Manhattan Beach, CA. (June 20th, 2009) – The recent Skate Shop Showcase event on June 20th at the Gallery 1018 in Downtown Los Angeles was an absolute success.

The skate shop showcase was more than an event, it was a complete experience engulfed in Skate Culture. The location was outfitted with lounges, an eclectic mix of music, free drinks, tacos, live art and a real sense of community. The vibe of the party made everyone feel that they were truly a part of something unique and progressive, keeping spirits high and the place packed from beginning to end.

The concept of the event was simple, each store was given a designated amount of wall space within the gallery to which they were free to design however they felt best represented their store. The artwork ranged from a robot built from skateboards (Shelter), live painting (Transport), interactive art (ZJ Boarding House), technical portraits by Danny Gonzalez (Goodtimes) and tons more.

The night was completed with the addition of live performances including the Rock and Roll sensation Vesuvia Sonic, The avant-garde and genius drum and bass duo Ninja Academy, the female phenomenon known as Brevi and a poetry reading dedicated to the skate shops written and performed by skate legend Brian Lotti. Rounding out the night was a slew of DJ’s including Patrick Melcher keeping the sound of soul in the air and bodies moving on the dance-floor.

The Skate Shop Showcase was presented by Ollie Pop and co-sponsored by ASR, Lost Energy, Rhumba Energy, Rasta Tacos, Skateboarder Magazine, Project Nightlight, Barefoot Wines, Go SK8 and Firestone.

June 23, 2009 · 1 Comment

Knoxville, Tenn. – The top pro wakeboarders on the planet are set to battle it out on the waters of Fort Loudoun Lake at Volunteer Landing in Knoxville, Tenn. this weekend, June 27 & 28, for the third stop of the 2009 MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour. Athletes will compete through a series of elimination rounds throughout the event, judged on rail tricks and big-air maneuvers, as they’re towed on the water behind the official PWT towboat, the MasterCraft X-Star, at a speed of approximately 25mph.image001

Athletes competing in Knoxville are not only vying for a cash purse, but also for points toward the Pro Tour standings; points are awarded based on final placement in the event. The highest total points-earner at the end of the five-event season will claim the coveted Pro Tour title and a cash bonus.

Canadian ripper Aaron Rathy sits at the top of the Pro Tour standings list and enters the Knoxville stop as the top-seeded rider, after topping the contest podium in Pleasant Prairie, Wis. last weekend. Rathy will look to capture the win in Knoxville and increase his lead in the standings, but faces a tough field of competitors along the way, including Aussie rookie phenom Harley Clifford and two-time wakeboard world champion Andrew Adkison.

Head to Volunteer Landing in Knoxville this weekend to see if Rathy can pull off another win or will be left in the wake of another rider.

In addition to all the action on the water, on land, spectators will enjoy great food and music; athlete autograph signings; chances to win freebies; and shopping at the most cutting-edge stores for water-sports equipment including boats, wakeboards, wakeskates, sunglasses and the latest in wakeboarding and surfing fashions.

The event will run from 9:30am to 4:30pm on Saturday, June 27; 9:30am to 3:30pm on Sunday, June 28.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate on event dates for $10 (general admission), $5 (ages 6-12) or free (ages 5 and under).
